There is no greater joy than visiting a new place and trying out the local cuisine. One of the only downsides to traveling though is enduring airports, and in particular airport restaurants – although there has been a significant shift in recent years. And if you’re leaving the Philippines on a long journey, there’s nothing like having a culinary treat or two waiting for you on the other side.

In this post we have found 5 airport restaurants that Michelin-starred chefs have had a hand in creating. A trip to one of these will turn your terminal wait into a gastronomic experience. And the best part is that it probably won’t break the bank.

Guy Martin – I Love Paris at the Charles de Gaulle Airport, France

When pioneering 3-Michelin starred chef Guy Martin opened a restaurant in Paris’s main airport, the whole world took notice. Martin personally oversaw the creation of the menu and it is a celebration of the Paris food scene. There is also a champagne bar for those who are looking for a pre-flight tipple. Not only is the food wonderful, but so is the restaurant as it was designed by the French architect India Mahdavi.

Wolfgang Puck – The Kitchen at Changi Airport, Singapore

Wolfgang Puck has expanded his restaurant empire to include the world’s best airport. The Kitchen at Changi Airport is Puck’s third restaurant in Singapore. Culture and lifestyle site 8 Days writes that the menu is made up of “global comfort food with Asian influences.” The site revealed that the dishes that are unique to the restaurant include Steamed Scottish Salmon Hong Kong Style and Australian Rib-Eye with Kalbi Glaze. Early flyers will be relieved to know that there is an all-day breakfast menu.

Alain Ducasse – Saison at Newark Liberty International, USA

Saison is a little corner of France tucked away in the busy New Jersey airport. The restaurant features French classics created by Alain Ducasse’s restaurant group including onion soup gratinee and hand cut beef tartare. The 3-Michelin star chef’s influence has clearly been felt as Globe News Wire reported that it was named Best Airport Restaurant Atmosphere in USA Today’s 10 Best Awards.

Marco Akuzun – Top Air at Stuttgart Airport, Germany

While the other chefs on the list have Michelin stars, Marco Akuzun is the only chef to have an actual star for his airport restaurant Top Air. The fine-dining restaurant menu is a mixture of German and intentional influences. While they eat, diners will have stunning views of both the Swabian Alps and the airport’s runway. Unusually for an airport restaurant Top Air is open to the public as it is before security checks.
