May 18 is the International Museum Day. However, in light with the pandemic, museums around the country has to close its doors as per the safety guidelines released by the Philippine government. But that does not mean we can not get our dose of art and learnings from these museums.

Check out these museums in Metro Manila who are opening their “doors” and welcoming visitors in through online programs.

National Philippine Museums

Metropolitan Museum of Manila

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila is one of the major museums in the Philippines. Originally built as a venue for international art exhibitions in 1976. It has acquired paintings, sculpture and prints through generous donations from Philippine artists, artists’ heirs, and private collectors. And has diverse range of contemporary art exhibitions and programs reflect the thriving borderless multi-dimensional environments of scholarship, artistic expression and the world we live in.

Yuchengco Museum

The Yuchengco Museum opened its doors in September 2005 with the support from the Founder, Filipino-Chinese businessman, diplomat, collector, philanthropist, art patron, and education advocate Amb. Alfonso Yuchengco. It is a safe haven for his art collection but as well as a venue for artistic and cultural exhibitions and excellence.

Yuchengco Museum has expanded to give audiences more access through an online presence. History, exhibits (old and new), films, knowledge & information and shop are now a click away with the website and social media, giving those from far away access to what’s happening locally.

Covid Pandemic Update: The Yuchengco Museum is closed to the public due to the pandemic. However, they have cultural education accessible to all through the Yuchengco Museum Online.

Museum of Contemporary Art and Design

Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD Manila) is the professional face of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in the area of arts and culture. It is located within the art college building showcasing the school’s courses: film, fashion design, animation, multi-media, photography, architecture, as well as music production. It produces outstanding exhibitions with world-wide standards by collaborating with professional artists and curators, both local and international.
